300,000 premium WiFi hotspots are now available to Trustive customers

Posted by Trustive on September 6, 2011

Trustive announces the consolidation of its international WiFi hotspot network in Europe, Asia & Latin America.

Trustive, a leading international WiFi access provider and No1 in Europe, is very pleased to announce another significant expansion to its international WiFi footprint. This most recent increase to 300,000 premium WiFi hotspots is primarily the result of the consolidation in Trustive’s leadership position in Europe (new network extensions in the UK, France and Eastern block countries) and also in Trustive’s newly developed markets such as Latin America and Asian.

“Trustive’s growth strategy is to continue to propose comprehensive coverage at quality hotspots in both Europe (our traditional stronghold) and fast growing markets such as Russia, Asia and Latin America” stated Christian VanGhelder, managing director of Trustive. “The WiFi hotspot business has become hot again due to an unprecedented need for broadband services by smartphone (e.g. iPhone & Android) and tablet users. The demand for bandwidth to sustain these customers’ expectations is way above and beyond that required by mobile phone customers. The smartphone and tablet users’ desire to stream TV, videos or digital radio whilst on the move means that everyone is quickly becoming experts at comparing WiFi and 3G services, understanding the associated costs and the implications in terms of speed and quality of service.”

Trustive customers have very little interest in complex billing algorithms. Trustive therefore takes the strain for the customer by combining the hotspot locations of more than 80+ leading WiFi operators into one unified, global network of 300,000+ WiFi hotspots in 130 countries and providing Trustive customers with seamless access to these locations using a simple pricing model.

This WiFi footprint is accessible automatically with the WiFi software (available for various devices via www.trustive.com) that detects and connects to Trustive WiFi hotspots. For up-to-date information about Trustive’s WiFi coverage, customers can consult Trustive’s online WiFi hotspot locator (www.trustive.com/hotspots/).

Trustive’s online WiFi hotspot and 3G coverage directory gets a makeover! See the results exclusively on www.trustive.com

Posted by Trustive on July 22, 2010

Trustive's new WiFi hotspot & 3G coverage directoryTrustive’s online WiFi hotspot and 3G coverage directory recently received an exciting makeover and is now packed with extra features designed to help customers plan than mobile internet usage, and in particular their WiFi usage, in advance.

Trustive’s strategy has long been to provide seamless mobile internet access to travellers and an integral part of this strategy has been providing customers with up-to-date information about Trustive’s WiFi hotspot and 3G network so that customers can plan their journeys and WiFi usage in advance and in confidence. Recently the subject of an exciting makeover, Trustive’s WiFi hotspot and 3G coverage directory is now looking better than ever and it’s available exclusively on www.trustive.com

In the beginning, Trustive’s WiFi hotspot data was presented in a simple list format but in October 2007, Trustive launched an innovative new hotspot locator that enabled customers to immediately see the locations of all Trustive hotspots near to a given address or postcode or pinpoint the location of a specific Trustive hotspot on a map. Then, earlier this year, Trustive’s hotspot locator tool received a much needed makeover in order to give customers even greater visibility of and information about Trustive’s international WiFi and 3G networks. This was achieved by enlarging the GoogleTM Map display area as well as by providing customers’ results in a scrolling list format for ease of reference. WiFi search results can be filtered by hotspot location type (airport, hotel, bar/restaurant, marina, campsite etc.) and chain (Hilton, Radisson, Best Western, McDonalds, Starbucks etc.) and then printed off or exported for use with GPS devices such as Tomtom, Navman, Garmin and Navigon.

Trustive’s WiFi hotspot network currently includes 140,000 WiFi hotspots in 110 countries and Trustive works closely with all its partners to ensure that its hotspot database is kept constantly up-to-date; in practical terms this means an average of at least 2 or 3 database updates per week. That’s why Trustive does not share its WiFi hotspot data with any independent WiFi hotspot directory websites; instead the data is presented exclusively on www.trustive.com.

Trustive customers can also access the official WiFi hotspot and 3G coverage directory by clicking on the corresponding links on MyHotspotter for Windows, MyHotspotter for Android (Google Phone) or Easy WiFi (Trustive’s WiFi connection software for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad).

The beginning of the end for unlimited data plans!

Posted by Trustive on July 12, 2010

As expected, unlimited data plans are starting to be withdrawn from the market, with both AT&T and 02 announcing the end of such plans and the introduction of strict caps on data usage. Other mobile carriers like Verizon have also announced that tiered pricing is on the cards for their customers.

Apple have been quoted as stating that 98% of smartphone users consume less than 2GB of data per month, but with the arrival of the iPad, this is certain to change…. The iPad has a huge range of multimedia books, graphically complex games and impressive video streaming capabilities, not to mention the App Store with its range of 200,000 applications. The iPad is marketed specifically as a versatile and mobile online device and capping data usage will therefore hit the innate usability and portability of this device hard.

No-one in the industry wants customers to exceed their data usage limits and incur heavy charges. App developers are therefore starting to review their applications to make them lighter and mobile carriers are pushing WiFi to their customers.  Trustive has been working with mobile carriers like Vodafone SFR, Telefonica and Swisscom for many years in order to offload their customers’ data usage onto Trustive’s premium WiFi hotspot network; a network which includes 140,000 premium WiFi hotspots in 110 countries worldwide.

Trustive’s seamless WiFi access is now available to iPad users!

Posted by Trustive on June 29, 2010

iPad users can get seamless WiFi access with Trustive's Easy WiFi appTrustive’s Easy WiFi app now offers iPad users the same seamless WiFi access that is enjoyed by iPhone & iPod Touch (iTouch) users.

Trustive’s Easy WiFi app was released in March 2009 in order to give customers one click access to Trustive’s international WiFi hotspot network via their iPhone or iPod Touch (iTouch) but following rigorous testing, Trustive is now very pleased to be able to confirm that this same Easy WiFi app is also fully compatible with the new iPad!

Trustive, a leading WiFi internet access provider and No1 in Europe, has long strived to provide seamless mobile internet access to travellers via a single click (one pass, a single username and password plus a range of WiFi software for both computers and smartphones that automates the log in process).

With the portability and innate usability of the iPad, applications that enable us to maintain our online lifestyles are key and Trustive’s Easy WiFi app is a prime example: starting with 30 minutes free WiFi access valid at any Trustive hotspot to get you started; an in-built hotspot locator tool enables users to plan their WiFi usage in advance; a simple online top-up facility makes purchasing additional credit a breeze; easy access to Trustive’s online account monitoring tool enables customers to view their usage 24/7 and in real-time; and finally the ‘smart link’ feature, which enables users to launch a favourite app or website directly from the Easy WiFi interface is just the icing on this technological cake.

In addition to all the above, Trustive’s clear pricing policy, which includes no hidden costs and no download quotas, means that customers can relax and enjoy staying connected with their iPads whenever and wherever they travel. Watching YouTube video clips or TV replays, sharing photos, checking e-mails, Facebook, Twitter, whatever customers want to do, Trustive’s high-speed and low-cost WiFi access makes it possible.

Christian VanGhelder, Trustive’s managing director comments “We are thrilled to be making this announcement today and I’m sure that all those customers who have contacted us asking about Easy WiFi’s compatibility with the iPad will also be thrilled. As a fan of the iPad myself, I am sure that all of our customers will quickly come to rely on this innovative device during their travels, and with 140,000 premium hotspots worldwide, Trustive is the perfect travelling companion!”

Trustive is working to be able to provide micro-SIM cards to its mobile broadband customers very soon, so that they too will then be able to enjoy Trustive’s 3G data roaming service on their iPads. For more information about downloading and connecting with Trustive’s Easy WiFi app, please visit: http://www.trustive.com/myhotspotter/ipad/

The biggest worldwide wireless broadband service is deployed from Europe – Trustive’s WiFi network grows to 140,000 premium locations in 70+ countries!

Posted by Trustive on May 4, 2010

London based Trustive has long aimed to unify local WiFi hotspot networks (airports, hotels, bars etc.) under one brand in order to save travellers from having to register and input their credit card details each and every time they want to connect to a different WiFi hotspot. With a Trustive pass, travellers can roam freely across a comprehensive network of hotspots, taking their credit with them wherever they go. In the face of stiff competition from big operators, this approach may have seemed risky.

However WiFi has now become so widespread, with hotspots cropping up in ever more places, that its availability is now expected in many locations, thereby encouraging users to rely on WiFi for a range of new and exciting tasks. As such, providing a reliable, high-speed WiFi access service has become a necessity for hotels, restaurants and bars, airports, leisure centres and campsites, train stations, at home and even in planes. Trustive’s WiFi network has grown in parallel, from 3000 hotspots in 2003 to an incredible 140,000 premium locations in 70+ countries worldwide, making it the No1 WiFi access provider in Europe and probably the largest in the world too.

The spread of WiFi, the improvements in technology (devices) as well as the speed of transmission all combine now to facilitate real multimedia usage. Users are no longer content just to consult their e-mails and the odd website. We use IM (instant messaging) VoIP services to keep communication costs down in countries where this is permitted. We watch YouTube videos and consult Google. We connect to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and/or any of the other networking sites where we need to be seen.

For the past 7 years, Trustive has followed this evolution establishing relationships with most of the key actors and big operators like Telefonica, BT Openzone, Swisscom, SFR, KPN, Golden Telecom, China Telecom (etc.) in order to be able to offer coverage in 70+ countries via 140,000 premium WiFi hotspot locations (hotels chains, restaurants, bars, airports, train stations, conference centres, marinas, car rentals). If you travel around China, Hong Kong, Australia, Taiwan, Argentina or if you go to Moscow, St Petersburg, Cape Town or anywhere in Europe, having high-speed access is now completely feasible, without the need to worry about the associated cost upon your return home because billing is simple with online account monitoring (in real-time, 24/7) and no hidden costs.

To help customers, Trustive also provides free WiFi software that detects and automatically identifies Trustive hotspots and logs the customer in with just one click. The customer can also access the secure web browser via the WiFi software if required.

Over recent years, the economy has seen the collapse of large corporate structures and a shift in favour of smaller organisations. A “nomadic” population has appeared, freed from the restraints of traditional structures (offices, meeting rooms) they are conducting business in bars, restaurants and hotels, which are cheaper and much more flexible. Trustive’s 2009 customer survey results (which represent the opinion of Trustive’s customer base of 8000+ frequent travellers) confirm that Internet access in these locations is a key, deciding factor and users are now basing their travel decisions on the availability (or not) of WiFi.

Trustive’s aim remains primarily to form partnerships that will enable the new “nomads”, who travel for business and leisure, to log in with a minimum of security and a maximum of freedom, whilst respecting the prevailing legislation.

Trustive will continue to expand in areas such as Japan, Korea, Singapore and Latin America by joining forces with innovative companies in order to guarantee the provision of a secure, seamless and high-speed service with clear cost control for the user. It is highly probable that Trustive will integrate other technologies into its offering to complement its WiFi service. International 3G services remain a “back-up” solution, for limited access in case of an emergency. We should remember that it is highly recommend to deactivate the “international data roaming” service option on the iPhone before leaving your home country and that the 50 Euros maximum usage limit and service cut off on international roaming fees that was imposed on mobile operators by the European Union in 2009, is quickly reached when you travel abroad and connect using your smartphone or 3G dongle.

WiFi will remain a key part of mobile internet for a long time to come, especially as soon as users pass the border or want to do more than just check their e-mails.  Recently, the Netbook, iPhone, iPod Touch, Google phone & now the iPad have all confirmed this trend. So before travelling, for business or leisure, remember “regardless of the device you use, the important thing is to get connected!”
