TRUSTIVE SIGNS MAJOR “DATA OFFLOAD” CONTRACTS WITH LEADING MOBILE OPERATORS

Posted by Trustive on February 12, 2013

With 2013 set to be the year of WiFi, mobile operators are turning to WiFi operators like Trustive for innovative, seamless data offload solutions to channel the growing demand from smartphones and tablets.

Various studies have highlighted the unprecedented growth in WiFi hotspot deployments in recent years and 2013 looks set to be the year of WiFi. Mobile data traffic is booming and laptops will soon be overtaken by smartphones and tablets (which have their own distinct usage patterns) in terms of number of connections at WiFi hotspots. As a leading WiFi aggregator, Trustive has witnessed this significant growth in traffic as well as the changes in usage pattern on its own international network.

Mobile operators are progressively integrating complementary network technologies, such as WiFi, into their cellular and/or broadband packages, not only for their domestic markets but more importantly for the international roaming markets. This transferral of data delivery from the traditional cellular networks onto, for example, WiFi networks, is called data offload and for the mobile operators, the main purpose of offloading data is to ease the congestion that is prevalent on many cellular networks.

low-cost 3G data offload opportunities with Trustive, Europe's leading WiFi operator

For end-users, the benefits of using mobile data offloading are primarily cost control and the availability of higher bandwidth. Smart-client software installed on the end-user’s device can handle the automatic and transparent session handover between the two network technologies as needed so that the service is provided seamlessly for the end-user.

In the fourth quarter of 2012 and in line with the trends highlighted above, Trustive signed major contracts with leading mobile operators in order to provide them with seamless access to selected parts of its international WiFi hotspot network via its WiFi roaming services programme.

Trustive provides proven integration tools and capabilities such as:

  • Secured, scalable and flexible AAA interconnect (including data mediation, exchange and archiving), billing and settlement infrastructure
  • Online web services providing network updates for dynamic and seamless user authentication
  • Online web services providing detailed hotspot information for automatic updates
  • 24/7 support in English and French
  • More than 10 years’ experience in international WiFi roaming agreements and integrations

These contracts are now in the final testing phases and full deployment will be rolled out over the next few months. For more details about Trustive’s WiFi roaming services programme, please visit: http://www.trustive.com/operators/

500 000 Premium WiFi Hotspots Now Available to Trustive Customers Following Another Significant Network Expansion

Posted by Trustive on January 22, 2013

Trustive, a leading international WiFi hotspot operator, is proud to be able to announce a significant expansion in its WiFi footprint. Recent breakthroughs in Asia and in particular in China, have resulted in the addition of vast numbers of premium WiFi hotspots to Trustive’s global footprint and Trustive customers can enjoy seamless access to 500,000 premium WiFi hotspots in major cities around the world.

Seamless access to 500,000 premium WiFi hotspots now available for Trustive customers

Seamless access to 500,000 WiFi hotspots worldwide

The growing popularity of revolutionary new devices (smartphones, tablets, netbooks etc.) has lead to a massive boom in traffic but the smartphone and tablet users’ desire to contain their ‘online lifestyle’ (stream TV, videos or digital radio, follow social networks, use VoIP/IM services etc.) whilst on the move has resulted in a surge in demand for quality WiFi services which enable users to maintain the same high-level of user experience as at home whilst retaining strict control of the associated costs. Trustive is renowned for its commitment to providing travellers with reliable, high-speed WiFi access in premium venues (e.g. airports and travel hubs, hotels, marinas, bars and restaurants etc.) and in order to meet users’ high expectations, Trustive constantly strives to improve and expand its WiFi footprint; adding new premium locations, monitoring performance and usage at existing hotspots and, if required, removing any hotspots that fail to meet Trustive’s strict standards. And all of this, in order to ensure that Trustive’s WiFi network is truly world-class in terms of coverage and quality.

A crucial aspect of providing a high quality WiFi access service has to be ease of access. Travellers are no longer content to navigate a hotspot’s web page (often in a foreign language) in order to try to find out how they can log in. Seamless access is the key and travellers benefit from seamless access to Trustive’s international WiFi network thanks to a range of free connection software for laptops (Windows, Macs and Netbooks) and “Trustive WiFi” apps for smartphones and tablets (Android and iPhones/iPads), which detect and provide seamless connectivity to Trustive WiFi hotspots. Furthermore, international operators are also integrating elements of Trustive’s premium WiFi footprint into their own offering, thereby giving customers access to Trustive WiFi in premium venues (where 3G networks are often heavily congested) via their own existing smart clients.

Christian VanGhelder, managing director of Trustive, confirmed that “at Trustive, we are very proud to have achieved this milestone figure of 500,000 premium hotspots. This achievement is the result of lengthy negotiations with hotspot operators across the world in order to be able to provide Trustive customers with a low-cost but high quality hotspot service in premium locations such as at international airports and other travel hubs, in key hotel chains across the world, in bars, restaurants, marinas and other leisure venues as well as at business focussed venues like convention centres and offices. Now more than ever, customers who download our free software for their smartphones, tablets and/or laptops can enjoy seamless detection and connectivity to Trustive’s comprehensive WiFi network wherever they may be. Footprint, quality, cost and ease of access remain our top priorities.

WiFi, the international mobile internet access solution for the perceived future

Posted by Trustive on February 23, 2011

In our 2010 report, Trustive observes new trends in the way travellers access the internet. Travellers use multiple devices – these days it is not unusual to travel with 3 or more devices – and laptops are gradually being replaced by tablets and smartphones.

This new trend is therefore leading a shift in the way that data is accessed. Regular usage of multiple devices and the real risk of loosing, breaking and/or having devices stolen means that data has to be accessible directly via the net. Forget having to download files onto multiple platforms and the headache associated with the constant need to manage and synchronize local data across multiple devices, hardisks and/or USB keys. In the 21st century, data will be stored in virtual “clouds”, accessible via any device with mobile internet access.

The combination of the availability of high-speed broadband, low-cost structures and a new generation of WiFi technology all enable users to enjoy high-speed WiFi access at home and in the office. It is therefore only natural that users prefer to use the same type of high-speed WiFi internet access services when they travel abroad as well.

Due to the above-mentioned new trends in mobile internet access, it is imperative that security be reviewed, the risks inherent to the public domain being simply too great to ignore. Trustive strongly recommends designing data access security protocols independently to the devices being used. Experts and suppliers should, in Trustive’s opinion, concentrate on providing secured access to data for internal or external use. Trustive understands the complexity of this design but, for the perceived future at least, we cannot escape current user behaviour patterns and trends and, in order to safeguard data, it is thus only sensible to address this subject sooner rather than later.

As carriers move to “à la carte plans”, business nomads working for small companies will pay increasing attention to which types of network they connect to and how much such mobile internet connections cost. Increases in workforce mobility will result in an increase in WiFi usage in the coming months and years. Today’s 3G and tomorrow’s 4G will be premium services, reserved for the top echelon of travellers. However, the vast majority of travellers will rely on WiFi access whenever they are abroad.

At Trustive, we have always worked to provide a secure infrastructure for travellers to rely on, primarily by establishing secure interconnections with our 100+ operator partners and by using the latest technology to protect our systems and sites. Trustive offers travellers a low-cost mobile internet access service that includes free WiFi software to detect and connect to Trustive WiFi hotspots in just one click. That, plus of course Trustive’s free secure web browser (also accessible via Trustive’s WiFi software) both enable travellers to connect easily and with peace of mind to the world’s largest WiFi hotspot network of 180,000 WiFi hotspots in 130 countries.

Trustive recently extended their service offering to include a combined mobile internet pass providing international WiFi and 3G data roaming access in order to provide their customers with even greater coverage and flexibility.

Christian VanGhelder, managing director of Trustive commented “Hotels and campsites are the 2 most popular venue types amongst Trustive customers (accounting for 56% and 31% of all Trustive customer WiFi sessions and with average session lengths of 1h30 and 3h respectively) and we are thus very pleased to be able to welcome 1600 of the SpotCoffee locations to our premium international network. The ability to share photos, watch online videos and TV replays and keep in touch via Facebook, Twitter et al quickly, easily and with peace of mind thanks to Trustive’s low-cost service and no download quota policy is greatly appreciated by Trustive’s community of frequent and occasional travellers; we are therefore sure that our community will quickly begin to make the most of these new SpotCoffee venues.”

Trustive, traditionally Europe’s No1 WiFi access provider, is very proud to be able to confirm that its popular WiFi network has grown once again and now includes 180,000 premium hotspots. This expansion includes the considerable consolidation of Trustive’s existing presence, particularly in Asia and Australasia (i.e. Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan etc.) but also the spread of coverage into new territories, including several Middle Eastern countries.

Trustive offers travellers extensive WiFi coverage by combining the hotspots of more than 80 leading WiFi operators into one unified, global network of WiFi hotspots and allowing Trustive customers access to these locations through a single click (single username and password plus a range of WiFi software for both computers and smartphones that detect Trustive hotspots and automate the log in process). Trustive recently extended their service offering to include a combined mobile internet pass providing international WiFi and 3G data roaming access in order to provide their customers with even greater coverage and flexibility.

This recent expansion to Trustive’s premium WiFi footprint means that not only is Trustive Europe’s No1 WiFi access provider, but also No1 in Asia and probably, the leading WiFi access provider in the world. Christian VanGhelder, managing director for Trustive explains that “Coverage will continue to be a key concern for travellers and this most recent network expansion is proof, were it required, of Trustive’s ongoing commitment to providing a truly world-class mobile internet service for its community of travellers. Trustive’s WiFi coverage now includes access at 750 airports, 32,000 hotels, 38,000 bars and restaurants, plus thousands of bus and train stations, marinas, convention centres and more venues besides. London, Paris, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Zurich, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Bangkok, Cape Town, Rio de Janeiro, Taipei, Chicago – wherever you need to be, we aim to be right there at your side, providing low-cost but high quality mobile internet access and keeping you connected whilst on the move.”

Trustive’s online hotspot locator tool enables customers to locate Trustive hotspots using either the freestyle (search by address, postcode or city) or browse search tools, filter search results according to hotspot type (e.g. hotel, airport, bar/restaurant etc.) and then plan their journeys and WiFi access in advance. Hotspot results can even be downloaded and imported into various GPS systems (Tomtom, Garmin, Navman or Navigon).

Trustive announces the launch of a new international mobile internet access service!

Posted by Trustive on May 12, 2010

Trustive's mobile broadband internet service is now available

One low-cost and flexible pass for mobile internet access in 85+ countries

Trustive’s new mobile internet service combines the best of WiFi with a 3G data roaming service that is available in 85+ countries via one flexible and low-cost pass.

Trustive’s 2009 customer survey revealed that the widespread deployment of broadband internet in people’s homes along with the rapid uptake of smartphones such as the iPhone and Google Phone have created new expectations among users; a large percentage of whom now have 3G dongles with “unlimited packages” (and strict fair usage policies) that enable them to continue their online lifestyles (on Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Buzz, E-mail, YouTube etc.) whilst on the move in their national market. However, fed-up of returning from holidays or business trips abroad only to be met by an astronomical bill from their mobile operator for international roaming charges or annoyed at having their data roaming service cut half way through their trip by their domestic operator because they’ve reach the EU imposed 50 Euros limit, frequent and occasional travellers are desperate for a truly flexible, affordable and manageable international mobile internet service. That’s why Trustive is launching a new mobile broadband internet access service that combines both WiFi & 3G in one flexible, easy to use pass.

Trustive’s mobile internet service is based on a simple billing model that offers customers maximum control and cost predictability. A purely prepaid service (no subscription accounts whatsoever!) that gives customers maximum control over their credit, no hidden costs, an easy online top-up facility and 24/7 access to their account usage in real-time are the primary advantages associated with Trustive’s new mobile broadband internet service. Making credit valid for 12 months from the date of purchase also enables Trustive to offer customers huge savings compared to their home operators, savings that can be further improved if customers plan their usage wisely, making use of WiFi access – which contrary to the 3G service is billed on a per minute basis and includes no download quotas – for data heavy tasks (such as up and downloading photos, watching online videos, downloading large e-mail attachments etc.) and keeping the 3G service as a ‘back up.’

Christian VanGhelder, managing director for Trustive explains that “Trustive’s research has shown time and time again that coverage and cost are the two key concerns for travellers. That’s why complementing Trustive’s existing WiFi service (which now numbers 140,000 WiFi hotspots in 70+ countries, making Trustive the No1 WiFi access provider in Europe and probably the largest in the world too) with a “back-up” 3G data roaming service was a natural progression for us. We’re confident that a mobile broadband internet pass that combines the benefits and cost savings associated with WiFi (reliable, high-speed connections, no download quotas etc) with the advantage of the almost ubiquitous coverage inherent with a 3G service will quickly become a favourite with frequent and occasional travellers alike.”
